Are you a healthcare professional seeking courses on military culture?

During the 2017 legislative session, the Maryland General Assembly passed House Bill 275, Department of Health and Mental Hygiene – Recommended Courses in Military Culture, which requires the Department of Health (the Department), in consultation with the Department of Veterans Affairs, to provide to certain health occupations boards a list of recommended courses in military culture; and generally relating to courses in military culture recommended by the Department of Health.

In fulfillment of these requirements, please find below, links to the recommended courses, specific to military culture.

 

 

Recommended Courses in Military Culture

Star Behavioral Health Program

The mission of Star Behavioral Health Providers is to take care of the behavioral health needs of service members, veterans and their families.  The Program recruits and trains interested civilian behavioral health providers in military specific culture and treatments that focus on the needs of the military population.  The Program also maintains a registry of trained providers so that the military connected community can access trained providers.  Learn more about training and the registry here.

PsychArmor Institute

PsychArmor® is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that offers critical resources to Americans so they can effectively engage with and support military service members, Veterans, and their families.

PsychArmor provides no cost online training videos delivered by national subject matter experts.  Learn more here.

Center for Deployment Psychology

CDP Training Opportunities
The Center for Deployment Psychology (CDP) trains military and civilian behavioral health professionals to provide high-quality, culturally-sensitive, evidence-based behavioral health services to military personnel, Veterans and their families.

CDP regularly presents online versions of evidence based psychotherapy training events in a variety of platforms. These online courses contain the same content as the face-to-face sessions and provide the same Continuing Education (CE) credits as well.

Military Culture: Core Competencies for Healthcare Professionals
The ability to understand and appreciate the military culture and to tailor clinical practices based on that understanding and appreciation is imperative for clinicians working with Service members. Just as any individual receiving care, Service members, Veterans, and their family members should feel understood and respected as well as have their problems readily identified and addressed in an effective, safe, and timely manner.  This course consists of four modules, each with an estimated time for completion of two hours.
