DVMF Joins Carry The Load’s 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance

Volunteers are invited to honor veterans and September 11 heroes through a beautification project at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery

The Maryland Department of Veterans and Military Families will participate in Carry The Load’s 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance on Saturday, September 12, 2026 at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery. The event will begin with a ceremony at 10:00am.

The nationwide initiative provides an opportunity for individuals, families and community organizations to honor the lives lost on September 11, 2001, as well as the service and sacrifices of military members, veterans, first responders and their families.

Volunteers at Crownsville Veterans Cemetery will support cleanup and beautification projects to help maintain the final resting place of Maryland veterans and their eligible dependents. The event is part of a national effort led by Carry The Load in partnership with the National Cemetery Administration, with volunteer activities planned at more than 140 cemeteries across the country.

This year marks the eighth year of Carry The Load’s 9/11 Day of Service and Remembrance. The initiative encourages Americans of all ages and backgrounds to transform remembrance into meaningful community service.
