Financial Assistance Grants
The Maryland Veterans Trust Fund is a 501(c)(3) organization that provides one-time grant awards to help veterans, their families, Gold Star parents and spouses, and members of the Maryland National Guard overcome temporary financial challenges. All other demographics may apply for a waiver during the intake process.
It’s governed by a Board of Trustees and chaired by the Secretary of the Maryland Department of Military Families. The program is funded through donations from community partners, individuals, and other mandated state revenue partners.
Eligibility
To qualify for a grant, applicants must meet the following requirements:
- Complete the intake process to verify eligibility
- Be a Maryland resident for at least one year
- Veterans must have completed a full term of military service
- Veterans must have received an honorable discharge or a general discharge under honorable conditions
- Have a household income at or below 300% of the Federal Poverty Level
- Provide all required documentation as requested
What the Fund Does Not Cover?
The Fund does not cover the following expenses:
Taxes, medical expenses, HOA fees, cable TV, child support, speeding tickets, legal fees, payday or interpersonal loans, credit card debt, home repairs, food, appliances, routine vehicle purchases or repairs, business expenses, storage unit fees, motorcycle finance or insurance, and roof replacement.

What It Covers
The Fund
can cover rent/mortgage payments, utility bills, and vehicle financing/insurance.

Grant awards are provided directly to the landlord, mortgage company, utility company, etc.
How to Apply
Step 1: Submit Application
Fill out the application (online or on paper) and submit. Applications are accepted on a rolling basis.
Step 2: Review
All applications are reviewed by an individual grant specialist, our grant administrator, and potentially, a separate review committee.
Step 3: Receive Decision
If you are approved, grant awards will be sent directly to the landlord, mortgage company, utility company, etc.
