VA Mental Health Services

Get connected with mental health care—no matter your discharge status, service history, or eligibility for VA health care. Find out how to access VA mental health services for posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD), psychological effects of military sexual trauma (MST), depression, grief, anxiety, and other needs. You can use some services even if you’re not enrolled in VA health care.

National Alliance on Mental Illness - Maryland

The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) is the nation’s largest grassroots mental health organization, Local NAMI affiliates in Maryland offer free peer support, education and outreach programs, and engage mental health advocates in their communities. On Our Own of Maryland, Inc.

Substance Abuse Help

Substance Use Disorder Services

Maryland has two VA service centers devoted to supporting veterans with “substance use disorder” (SUD), including care and treatment plans. A clinical diagnosis may specify the type of SUD, such as alcohol use disorder, cannabis use disorder, opioid use disorder or stimulant use disorder.

Combat Zone Transition

Vet Ce​nter

Veterans, or family members, who served in any combat zone and received a military campaign ribbon (Vietnam, Southwest Asia, OEF, OIF, etc.) are eligible for Vet Center services.  Readjustment counseling is provided to include a wide range of services to eligible veterans and their families in the effort to support a successful transition from military to civilian life.
